CBIP has envisioned and enacted a new form of guidance, which takes the form of our Council of Elders. This diverse collective brings decades of collective experience in Black and Indigenous scholarship and community work, and has already begun providing their wisdom to CBIP’s many initiatives.
We are especially grateful to founder Adeeba Deterville. Dr. Deterville began at CIIS in 2010 as a student, completing her B.A. in interdisciplinary studies and her doctorate in transformative studies. She also founded the Black Psychology Project and was Core Faculty in the B.S. Psychology program. With more than 25 years’ experience in the nonprofit sector and 30 years of history with the Association of Black Psychologists, Dr. Dee’s focus on Africentric psychology and spirituality, cultural identity development, and Africentric perspectives in transformative pedagogy were instrumental to the creation of this center.
