As part of the Human Sexuality Decennial celebration, we are delighted to invite you to an interactive virtual event that promises to inspire, challenge, and deepen our understanding of identity, kink, and healing.
Join acclaimed author Leora Fridman for an intimate discussion, as she shares excerpts from her thought-provoking new book, Bound Up: On Kink, Power, and Belonging (Wayne State University, 2024). Leora will explore themes of writing the self, kink, disability, and the transformative role of play in processing inherited trauma. This event is intended for those engaging in healing through writing, ethnography, autoethnography, autotheory, and autocosmology. Students are warmly welcomed.

About the Author
Leora Fridman is a celebrated writer whose work is concerned with issues of identity, care, dis/ability, and embodiment. She is the author of Bound Up: On Kink, Power & Belonging, Static Palace, a collection of essays about chronic illness, art and politics, My Fault, selected by Eileen Myles for the Cleveland State University Press First Book Prize, and other books of prose, poetry and translation. Recent work appears or is forthcoming in Parapraxis, the Drift, Fence, Lithub, the New York Times, and the Believer, among others.
Leora holds degrees with honors from the University of Massachusetts Amherst MFA Program for Poets and Writers and Brown University. She has taught for institutions including Columbia University, Mount Holyoke College and Saint Lawrence University, in addition to in homes and retreat centers, and she collaborates widely with artists, writers and community groups. She is a recipient of support and honors from organizations including Fulbright, Creative Capital / Andy Warhol Foundation, Caldera, the National Endowment for the Arts, Vermont Studio Center, and the Center for Cultural Innovation. In addition to writing and teaching, Leora curates exhibitions of contemporary art and performance, and consults with artists and creative organizations. She is currently faculty at the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School and Director of the New Jewish Culture Fellowship. Learn more at leorafridman.com.
