Integral Counseling Psychology's Brant Cortright Pens a Bestseller
The integral message resonates with a large audience
Brant Cortright has a hit on his hands.
The Neurogenesis Diet and Lifestyle: Upgrade Your Brain, Upgrade Your Life (Psyche Media, April 2015), the book by the Integral Counseling Psychology professor, has become a bestseller in several categories, including Neuroscience, Holistic Health, Health, Fitness & Dieting, and briefly Nonfiction overall.
In addition to the U.S. market, the book is also a #1 bestseller in six other countries on four continents, making it an international bestseller.
"It's reaching a larger number of people than I ever imagined," says Cortright. "It's just so great to see that the integral message, which in the book I call a holistic approach to brain health--a better-known term--has such resonance with the wider culture."
A Paradigm Shift in Brain Health and Aging
The Neurogenesis Diet and Lifestyle brings together the latest in neuroscience research to present a new paradigm of brain health and aging. This integral approach to brain health and guide for optimal brain aging builds on recent research in neuroscience that shows the brain produces new brain cells throughout our lives.
Using the integral approach to consciousness developed by Sri Aurobindo, The Neurogenesis Diet and Lifestyle looks at enhancing the brain at every level--body, heart, mind, and spirit--for, as the book says, only such a holistic program can do justice to the brain's full potential. "I think the time is ripe for a book like this," says Cortright. Younger and middle-aged groups want to know how to enhance their brain and cognitive abilities. Older adults want this, too, but also want to protect their brains from cognitive decline and Alzheimer's."
Cortright, also the author of Integral Psychology: Yoga, Growth, and Opening the Heart (SUNY Press), and Psychotherapy and Spirit: Theory and Practice in Transpersonal Psychotherapy (SUNY Press), couldn't be happier about his newfound success.
"Having a bestseller is exhilarating! To write in isolation for a long time and then suddenly to reach tens of thousands of people is like a dream come true."
