A Guest Lecture with Rabbi Jill Hammer, Ph.D.

Please join the Ecology, Spirituality, and Religion program on Thursday, November 21, 2024 for an enriching 1.5-hour online conversation featuring Rabbi Jill Hammer, Ph.D. In a talk titled "The Book of Creation: Magic, Nature, and Contemplation in an Ancient Jewish Mystical Text" Rabbi Hammer will speak to us about the deep connections between religion and ecology through the lens of Jewish spirituality and an ancient text – the Sefer Yetzirah! Following a 1-hour structured talk, there will be an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to engage directly with Rabbi Hammer to further explore the insights she shares.

Rabbi Jill Hammer, Ph.D., author, scholar, ritualist, poet, dreamworker and midrashist, is the Director of Spiritual Education at the Academy for Jewish Religion, and a co-founder of Beit Kohenet, a house of Jewish, mystical, earth-based, feminist seeking. She is the author of Undertorah: An Earth-Based Kabbalah of Dreaming, Return to the Place: The Magic, Meditation, and Mystery of Sefer Yetzirah, The Hebrew Priestess: Ancient and New Visions of Jewish Women’s Spiritual Leadership (with Taya Shere), The Jewish Book of Days: A Companion for All Seasons, The Omer Calendar of Biblical Women, Sisters at Sinai: New Tales of Biblical Women, and The Book of Earth and Other Mysteries. Her forthcoming novel is called The Moonstone Covenant. She lives in Manhattan with her family.
