Our Path Forward Amid Recent Executive Orders

A new committee will track federal executive orders and assess their potential impacts, to ensure CIIS can continue its commitment to unity in diversity.

President Brock S. Blomberg and Vice President Rachel Bryant January 28, 2025

Dear Beloved Community,

We want to assure you that we are actively assessing the implications of recent executive orders from the new administration in Washington and are thoroughly reviewing their scope and potential impact on our community. It's important to note that checks and balances exist regarding executive proclamations, including legal safeguards and state-level protections, to ensure everyone's rights are respected.

These developments prompt us to reaffirm our commitment to CIIS’ mission and values, which have guided us through uncertain times since our founding in 1968. CIIS was established on the vision of unity in diversity, a principal Sri Aurobindo described as “the very basis of existence.” CIIS has always sought to provide a space where people of all backgrounds and beliefs can transform self and society through integral education and the evolution of consciousness.

“Unity is an idea which is not at all arbitrary or unreal; for unity is the very basis of existence.”
Sri Aurobindo, The Ideal of Human Unity (1919)

In alignment with our mission, we call on everyone to lead with courage and compassion during these transformational times. Let us focus on words and actions that widen and strengthen our community to withstand the false sense of separation that uncertainty can foster. Together, we will ensure that CIIS continues its vital work in fostering an inclusive academic environment and workplace.

A Monitoring Committee has also been established to track executive orders and related developments. We are committed to keeping you informed as we develop strategies to address these changes and as new information comes to light.

Sincerely,
Brock and Rachel
