Self-Care & Sustainability in Community Mental Health
This month's guest lecturer, Kini Chang, LMFT, will lead a professional development workshop. Our monthly workshops provide current and prospective students with valuable insights on topics related to the field of community mental health.
This workshop will discuss sustainability practices to support emerging therapists in the field of Community Mental Health. Tips and practices to integrate self-care into daily life, engaging with rest as resistance, and balancing compassionate client-centered clinical care with clinician care. This workshop will include activities, experiential learning, and the development of a therapist toolkit to begin building their self-sustainability repertoire.
About the Presenter
Kini Chang is an experienced educator, clinician, and activist with over 15 years of experience working with teens, adults, and families. She was previously the Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of the Counseling and Forensic Psychology Graduate Program at Holy Names University in Oakland, where she fostered a culturally and racially inclusive community focused on diversity and equity. Drawing from a liberation and social justice lens, Kini specializes in trauma related to systemic oppression, community violence, abuse, and grief, with a particular focus on intergenerational and multigenerational familial trauma. In addition to her academic work, she maintains a private practice in Oakland, where she offers therapy for anxiety, depression, transitional struggles, and multicultural couple's therapy. Kini is also a member of the UCSF Integrative Health and Medicine Committee, advocating for holistic, accessible healthcare options. A native of the Bay Area, she is passionate about creative expression, storytelling, and holistic healing for the mind, body, and soul.
