Continuing Education for Mental Health Professionals

Human Sexuality
Astraea Bella Davidson

Erotic well-being is an integral component of overall health. In a setting of inclusion, safety, and reflective inquiry we will examine psychological, physiological, cultural, and transpersonal dimensions of sexuality. We will discuss how erotophobia, sexual shame, and the myth of the normal influence sexual development. We will also discuss common sexual & relational problems and how therapists can support their clients in making desired changes. Attention will be given to the development of therapeutic skills, with a strong focus on the ways in which therapists can increase their comfort and ease with eros and thereby better support their clients’ development. Issues of cultural and sexual diversity will be included throughout the course. Individual, dyad and group exercises will be a regular part of the class experience, as will reflective journal exercises. Resources for further learning will also be offered.

Astraea Bella Davidson has a deep commitment to providing progressive & socially engaged psychotherapy. She holds an MSW from Smith College, a BA from Sarah Lawrence College, and training at Stanford University.
