Jane Zich is an artist, writer, and psychologist
who explores the "vision journey"
process and its images in relationship to
clinical issues and universal human experiences
of the sacred. She has received numerous
awards in juried art shows for her mixed-media
paintings, and her work is included in the
book Shadow: Touching the Darkness Within,
a collection of literature and art exploring
archetypal themes. Over the past 20 years,
Zich has been developing meditative drawing
as a method for gaining an intuitive understanding
of the human psyche's relationship to the
numina. In the series Vision Journey,
visual "stories" emerge spontaneously
of balancing the forces of nature, of encountering
animal spirits, and of being initiated into
new ways of perceiving and relating to the
world. These visions, which symbolize transformation
of transgression, sacrifice, and death,
suggest that the image-making process is
intimately linked with the shaman archetype.
