Rachel Levi is a child/pediatric clinical
psychologist by training, with a special
heart interest in working with children,
adolescents, and families living with life-treatening
and/or life-limiting illnesses; living while
facing the death of a family member; and
the life that follows after the death of
a family member, especially a child or adolescent.
She has taught a variety of courses, including
an introduction to individual interventions
and child and adolescent psychotherapy.
She holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in clinical
psychology from Case Western University
in Cleveland, Ohio, where she received focused
training in research with children and adolescents
living with illness. She did her postdoctoral
work in Cleveland as well.
Prior to coming to CIIS, she worked in
an outpatient setting as well as in a children's
hospital with the hematology/oncology
and palliative care divisions. Her
research has focused upon a variety
of psychological/emotional issues faced
by families, children, and adolescents living
with childhood cancer. She has also co-developed
programs including teaching yoga
to children with chronic illnesses
(e.g. cancer, diabetes, etc.), and psychotherapy
groups using knitting for relaxation. While
on faculty at CIIS, she continues to consult
with the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society
and maintains a private clinical practice.
