Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness Graduate Program

Alumni at Work

Graduates of the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program take their new way of being in the world to a variety of professions. Some return to their careers in law, medicine, public interest organizations, psychotherapy, religion, or business with a radically expanded orientation and help create new ways of approaching their fields. Some use their knowledge in the field of education, facilitating a transformation of consciousness and practice in their students. Others effect change through their work as writers, consultants, or activists. Among the alumni are:

Christian de Quincey, Ph.D., 2000, is a philosophy of consciousness professor at John F. Kennedy University and an adjunct faculty with the Union Institute. He is also managing editor of IONS Review, published by the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and the author of Radical Nature: Rediscovering the Soul of Matter.

Molly Dwyer, M.A., 2002, is a doctoral candidate in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at CIIS. She is also the vice president of the Satyana Institute in Boulder, Colorado, where she facilitates transformative gender healing work with Will Keepin. She won the 1999 Vickers Award from the International Society for Systems Sciences for her paper, "The Emergent Feminine: A Cosmological Inquiry into the Role of the Feminine in the Evolution of the Universe."

Gwen Gordon, M.A., 2001, is the education director for the Institute for Deep Ecology. She is currently working on a book entitled Beauty and Play: The Erotic Life of Space and Time.

Sean Hargens, M.A., 2001, is a doctoral candidate in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at CIIS. He is a researcher for the Integral Institute, a nonprofit organization devoted to global transformation. He is currently collaborating on a book about integral ecology with the environmental philosopher Michael Zimmerman.

Hans Gruenig, M.A., 1998, is completing his doctoral degree in philosophy with a focus on Heideggerian, Buddhist, and ecological studies at Tulane University.
