Admission to the Program

Master's Degree Requirements
Applicants with a bachelor's degree in the humanities or social sciences, or with science or professional degrees, are encouraged to apply to the master's program. The Admissions Committee welcomes information regarding a student's involvement in the practice of any of the traditions offered for study as evidence of practical involvement in the field. In addition to the standard application form, applicants must submit the following:

• Academic transcripts
• An autobiography
• Academic writing sample
• A goal statement

Doctoral Degree Requirements
Applicants to the doctoral program are required to have a master's degree or equivalent in philosophy and religion. Students with a master's degree in other areas, however, are eligible for admission and are encouraged to apply, but may be required to take up to one year of additional coursework. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate familiarity with at least one core faculty member’s area of expertise and to explain their motivation for specialization in this area. In addition to the standard application form, the following are required of all applicants:

• Academic transcripts
• An autobiography
• A goal statement
• Two letters of recommendation
• Academic writing sample
• An interview
