Graduates of the Asian and Comparative Studies
program possess a rare combination of skillsin
research, language and translation, cross-cultural
communication, and teachingthat are applicable
to a broad range of professions. While some pursue
a spiritual path, others obtain the academic credentials
needed to secure teaching positions. Many students
pursue careers in counseling, organizational consulting,
social services, or political activism. Among
the alumni are:
Fu-Ping Chang (Sister Zunai), Ph.D., 2002,
serves as an adjunct faculty member in the East
Asian Studies Department at the University of
California at Berkeley.
Kartikeya Patel, Ph.D., 1998, is the dean
of the Global Program at the Institute of Transpersonal
Psychology. He is the author of a number of publications.
Dr. Patel's recent articles have appeared in Hypatia:
A Journal of Feminist Philosophy; Asian Philosophy;
and Indian Philosophical Quarterly.
Murshida Rabia Ana Perez-Chisti, Ph.D., 1999,
is a faculty member at the University of Creation
Spirituality/Naropa Institute in Oakland, California.
She is a Sufi Movement International lineage holder
and has a private counseling practice in the San
Francisco Bay Area.
Taigen Daniel Leighton, M.A., 1989, is
a Zen Buddhist priest, professor of world religions,
a facilitator of Christian-Buddhist dialogue groups,
and the author of several books, including Bodhisattva
Archetypes.
